The Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA) developed out of the Context Gallery in the Playhouse. Since its conception in 1992, the gallery has exhibited emerging artists from Northern Ireland alongside international peers.
Michael acted as project architect for the scheme which sought to build on the history of the Context Gallery but with a wider mandate, fostering a range of artistic, curatorial and critical practices. The brief was to restore a historical unit adjacent to the city walls within the Cathedral Quarter. The scheme proposed to open up the space to allow freedom to the emerging artists and give curators the best possible canvas to allow contemporary art to be exhibited.
