Our approach to this project was to develop a contemporary response to the existing gate lodge and its surrounding landscape. The villa is split into two distinctive forms, both solid monolithic blocks; one contemporary, one historical. They are joined by a glazed link which houses a dining space with gallery above.
The challenge in this project was to address the streetscape and roadside frontage, whilst allowing the dwelling to maximise the views of the River Foyle which lay to the rear. Large corner glazed doors allow the downstairs public rooms to open up the walled garden with its carefully controlled external spaces.
